Shade Sails and Structures

“Shade Solutions from the Sun”

Shade Sails

Shade Sails are a very cost effective way of adding shade to an area. They are custom made to your measurements and can be made in any shape. Made from high quality shadecloth fabrics with UV protection ratings of up to 99%, which is great protection from the hot Queensland sun.

At Total Shade Solutions, we follow an engineer supplied guideline called a Generic Design Compliance Certificate. We have developed this with an engineer to ensure we are working with a minimum standard when designing and installing Shade Sails.

We must have adequate fixing points to install your Shade Sail. This could be on a structure, such as a house or building or we may need to install steel posts. These fixing points must be able to absorb constant wind loads. To install steel posts, we will need to dig a minimum footing depth of 1200mm x 450mm wide, before concreting in place. Once the fixing points have been installed your Shade Sail will be measured and manufactured.

Each Shade Sail is manufactured here in Brisbane, using computerised technology.

Your Shade Sail will include:

  • Double folded interlocked seams and double folded edge pockets (no raw edges)
  • Reinforced corner gussets with extra webbing straps (heavy duty)
  • PTFE UV stabilized thread
  • Stainless Steel corner rings supported by webbing straps
  • Twin needle double stitching to all seams and pocket edges

When installing your Shade Sail, we use 316 Marine Grade Stainless Steel Hardware. It prevents rust and is of the highest quality. Your Shade Sail will be tensioned, ensuring a tight fit.

Your Shade Sail will need re-tensioning as they stretch and become loose, over time. This loss of tension enables the Shade sail to move in the wind, often causing cables edges to rip out  and loosen connection points, primarily turnbuckles and shackles. A yearly service on your new Shade Sail will ensure you get longevity out of your product and value for money. We have a dedicated Maintenance program that checks all these issues ensuring your Shade Sail lasts for many years to come.

Shade Structures

Shade Structures offer another shade option, and differ from Shade Sails as they have a fixed frame.

The most popular Shade Structures are:

Hip and Ridge Structures

Hip and Ridge Structures are commonly used in Schools, Child Care Centres and Council parks over playgrounds, but they can be suited to many different applications.

They consist of a steel frame, rafters and a ridge beam then covered with shadecloth fabric.

Car Park Structures – commonly used at Shopping Centres and Business Premises.

They consist of a steel frame and covered with a PVC membrane or shadecloth fabric. There are two main designs – Single or a Double Cantilever.
